The Big Challenge Model
Every STEMquest week includes LEGO, robotics, coding, science, math, art, and technology. What changes is the 'Big Challenge' campers will solve:
Big Challenge 1: Zoom & Vroom! – Make it and move it: vehicles, ramps, and motion
Big Challenge 2: Robonimals – Build and code animals that move
Big Challenge 3: Funmachines – Create your own amusement park machines

Question 2

What are the camp hours?

Accepted Answer

Camp hours vary by season. 
Camp programming runs from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. 
Before and after this time window is a free-play session (if applicable). 
Refer to the camps page for more precise information on hours.
Drop-off and Pick-up are flexible during the camp hours.

What should my child bring to camp?

Indoor shoes
Dress according to the weather (e.g., winter gear if cold, sunhat if hot, rain jacket when required)
Sunscreen (children are expected to apply sunscreen independently)
Bug repellent (Optional - Parent’s choice)
Favourite toy or book to read
Note: STEMquest is not responsible for lost or misplaced items. Please ensure your child takes care of their belongings.
Lost items are displayed in the closet. Please pick them up from the shelf if you were able to find a lost item that belongs to you.

What is the sign-in and sign-out process?

Sign-In and Sign-Out: 
Parents or guardians must sign their child in and out each day.
Children must be signed in and out by an individual aged 16 years or older.

What is the pickup procedure?

Authorized Pick-Up:
Parents picking up children may be asked to present a photo ID for verification. The ID should match the name of the individual who registered the child for the camp, the emergency contact, or any person authorized to pick up the child. If someone else will be picking up your child, please email their full name to info@stemquest.ca in advance.

Important Note:
Always carry a photo ID for pick-up. If someone else is authorized to pick up your child, ensure you email info@stemquest.ca with their full name. They will be required to show photo ID at pick-up for verification.

Question 6

What is the washroom policy?

Washrooms are on the same floor, right by the Exit sign across the STEMquest entrance door.
Washrooms are common washrooms shared by offices located on the same floor. 
Children aged 6 or younger: May ask for a buddy and use the "buddy system" and go to the washroom in pairs if they need help.
Children older than 6: Go to the washroom independently.
Toileting accidents: All campers must be fully toilet-trained and able to use the washroom independently. In the event of an accident, staff will verbally assist the child with changing if extra clothes are available. Parents will then be contacted to pick up their child and ensure that proper hygiene and clothing are attended to. 
If a child experiences more than two accidents, they will not be permitted to stay for the remainder of the camp. 
Washrooms are not inside STEMquest and are maintained by the building management.

Question 7

Can I register my 5-year-old for the camp?

Age requirements vary across different camps. Please refer to the specific camp page for the age details relevant to the camp you're interested in for your child.
For STEMquest, all 5-year-olds must have completed their Junior Kindergarten to be eligible for registration camps. 
They must be registered to, or currently attending, Senior Kindergarten to be eligible for STEMquest Camps.

Toileting Requirements:
All campers must be fully potty trained and able to use the washroom independently. In the event of an accident, staff will assist the child verbally and help them change if extra clothes are available. Parents will be contacted to pick up their child and ensure appropriate hygiene and clothing needs are met. If a child has more than two toileting accidents, they will not be permitted to remain at camp for the duration of the program.

Will there be photos taken during camp?

Accepted Answer

Yes, photos will be taken of the children during camp activities. We post updates and activity highlights on our Facebook and Instagram weekly.

A typical day at a STEMquest Camp

At STEMquest, we offer a mix of structured and unstructured activities throughout the day, including robotics, engineering, coding (including Minecraft education coding), art, and free-play. Weather permitting, children will have 1 or 2 recesses outdoors to ensure and allow room for physical activities.

At most camps,  programming runs from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Before and after this time window is an indoor free-play session. Refer to the camps page for more precise information on hours.
Drop-off and Pick-up are flexible during the day.

What is the counselor-to-camper ratio?

The ratio is 1 counselor for every 12 campers

Is your staff trained to manage children with special needs?

Accepted Answer

STEMquest staff are not trained to support children with special needs, and we do not have additional staff available to provide 1:1 support. 
STEMquest operates as a group-based camp, and children must be able to participate independently in group activities and follow instructions in a structured setting.
We are not equipped to meet the specific needs of children.

Question 14

What is STEMquest's policy on camper behavior and safety?

At STEMquest, we aim to provide a safe and inclusive learning environment. Children whose behaviour poses a safety risk, is aggressive, or consistently disrupts group activities may be sent home without a refund.
Our camps run in group settings and do not offer one-on-one support. Children must be able to participate in group activities and respect equipment, including tablets, laptops, and robotics materials. Staff will attempt two redirections before a child is sent home.

Who needs to sign a waiver for STEMquest activities?

Accepted Answer

A signed waiver is required for all participants who wish to attend  STEMquest workshops, events, birthday parties, and programs. 
For minors, a parent or legal guardian must complete and sign the waiver on their behalf before participation. 
Waivers help ensure safety and understanding for all involved and must be submitted before the start of any STEMquest activity.

Are STEMquest camps bilingual? / Are STEMquest camps offered in French?

STEMquest camps are delivered in English, and while some staff might be bilingual.
French-speaking children with basic self-help skills are welcome as activities use simple instructions and visual, pictorial guidance.

Is STEMquest a good fit for my child?

STEMquest is a technology and engineering-focused camp where children spend significant time building, creating, and problem-solving, as well as working on screens to learn coding, programming, robotics, and Minecraft Education. 
Activities are structured, guided, and require campers to collaborate with peers, persist through challenges, follow instructions and stay engaged for extended periods. This camp is best suited for children (including 5-year-olds) who are curious about technology, enjoy focused, hands-on mental challenges, and are comfortable sitting, thinking, and working through problems. 
It is not designed as a high-energy, run-around camp, but for children whose energy is best channeled through learning, creating, and critical thinking.

Our programs aim to provide hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), coding, and robotics.

Does my child need previous coding or robotics experience to join?

Accepted Answer

No experience is needed! Your child will learn everything from the basics. If they already have some knowledge, they’ll get a recap and might even pick up new skills along the way!

Not all robotics programs are the same. Students who have experience with the specific product and program we use as our learning material, will be assessed before deciding on their level.

Can my child attend a makeup class if they miss a session?
 Makeup classes are only offered if a session is cancelled by us or cannot be held for any reason on our end. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide makeup classes for sessions missed due to personal reasons or absences.
